Wendel’s opened in 1997 as a small bookstore with a simple fresh food café. From the start we were welcomed by the community and the word spread about our handmade products and great service. We quickly grew! Today, we employee over 30 people from our community and have deep connections with Fort Langley and have made lifelong friends.
Our bookstore has earned a great reputation as a respected independent store that provides our customers with incredible service and a great selection of quality titles. We have grown into a full fresh food restaurant, catering service and a wholesale manufacture of organic baked goods.
Wendel’s treats their customers like guests in their home. As you get to know the people and the food of Wendel’s, it becomes apparent that family and great staff is the backbone of the business. Who we are is just as important as what we do.
The Wendel’s staff is a special group! By bringing a team together who have happy and caring personalities and who genuinely love people, a cheerful, warm atmosphere is created that leaves our customers feeling great as well as the staff serving them.

Our selection of books is handpicked, based on customer requests and keeping up with what’s hot and what’s not in the book world.

The restaurant side of Wendel's has taken a tremendous leap in the food industry- well actually a tremendous leap backwards.
When Ethel (Wendel’s wife) owned a restaurant 40 years ago in downtown Vancouver, food served was made on site from fresh products. At Wendel's we follow this tradition. All products including salad dressings, salsas, soups, baking……are all made from real whole products. This means no pre-made muffin or cake mixes and it does mean all the lemon juice we use in our baking and in the lemonade we serve is hand squeezed.
Understanding that people want food made for them and not the “masses” is why we are busy everyday. At Wendel’s we cook for our customers like we cook for our family – with pride.
